Mid-July

I don't remember for sure if this is Dietrich's and Kate's first time riding a horse. It's rare enough that it may as well be though. This was at a big family reunion in Rexburg, ID. The host family owns a ranch. Oh, and they have a famous horse-riding group called the Americanas. Ever heard of 'em? :) They got to be in an inaugural parade (GW Bush). Anyway, the kids had fun and had a hard time both looking at me for the pictures of course. haha

I can make stuff . . .

My ward's relief society gave us a project of making aprons to build our basic sewing skills for our activity last night. I made my apron with this machine:
I definitely had the oldest machine there. It IS electric, but it's also quite old. I just asked for it when my mom got herself a new one. I don't think she inherited it from someone else, but I don't really know. Someone eventually decided, and started spreading the report that it had been my great-grandmother's machine. I didn't bother to dispute it. It totally works - I have attachments to do different kinds of edging and stuff (that's not even the right word, but it's the best I could come up with right now). I've had it for a couple of years and I was so excited to learn how to use it. I should say re-learn. I did sew together a patchwork quilt on it in high school, but that was AGES ago. :) I couldn't even remember how to thread it. Luckily, the teacher was very familiar with my dinosaur of a machine. Sister Hope (the teacher) is a sewing queen! She loves it and has been doing it for years.
I had help to modify the pattern to make it a kid-size apron: smaller and with a halter top tie around the neck to make it adjustable for different kid helpers. And here are my lovely children modeling my handiwork. Kid models are great. I'm going to have to make a second one probably. My kids both really like it, but they almost never help in the kitchen at the same time.

Bed head

Kate gets some pretty wild hair. This particular case of bed head was too good not to capture. Crazy hair . . . and still cute! Wouldn't that be nice . . . :)
