Tribute to Pres. Hinckley

I've enjoyed all of the tributes to Pres. Hinckley that have been posted on the blogs of my friends, and I wanted to add one to mine. My sister-in-law emailed this lovely poem that I thought was so appropriate and very likely true. A wonderful reflection of a great man. I was sad for those of us left behind when I first learned of his death Sunday evening, but so happy for him. I certainly thank the Lord for the life and example of this beloved Prophet.

Prophetic Passing

I imagine he's running to Marjorie now,

Yes, running, not waving his cane.

I see him embracing his father and mother

While they keep repeating his name.

I see him now meeting his forebears,

Brother Brigham and Joseph are there.

Sweet reunion of prophets, united by service

That only such noble men share.

I see him embraced by the Savior

While Father says, "Good and well done.

So faithful in stalwart endurance, I welcome

My noble, most excellent son."

I then hear the ripples of laughter

As he says the reception's just fine,

But he hopes that he'll get an assignment or two

Since there's no need to waste any time.

I can hear his clear voice in the stillness

At the close of this sweet Sabbath day,

Have faith and move forward - there's work to be done.

President Hinckley would want it that way.

Tagged!

A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning.
B. Each player answers the questions for themselves.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

10 Years Ago: I was a freshman in high school and was just learning to like myself, therefore friends were not as necessary as when I didn't - which was good because I didn't have many friends. Not girl friends anyway. The boys had no qualms with being my friend. And it wasn't even because I was "easy" or anything dumb like that. They were just more accepting - probably the fact that I was hot had something to do with it, too. :-) I am kidding okay. But I was also busy being on the high school's ballroom dance team; the first female freshman to make it.

5 Things On My To-Do List Today:Today's pretty much over so the list is more or less done . . . let's go with tomorrow's. Hmmm - I don't know that I've thought that far ahead. Wash dishes, make blueberry crumble cake, put away Dietrich's laundry (mine and Dave's got done today), do something else to clean the house, read more of the book I've borrowed from my friend (Vol. 1 of "The Kingdom and the Crown" by Gerald Lund - so good).

Things I Would Do If I Were Suddenly Made A Billionaire: A billionaire - that's SO much money I could do A LOT! Set aside all of the necessary funds for the rest of Dave's schooling, build a house and two barns on ten acres, invest some of it - a specific amount that would cover Dietrich's bachelor's degree, set aside 1 million for retirement, buy a truck (for Dave), probably we should set aside another million to cover other children that may show up and their higher education, give some to the church, some to family . . . golly - there will still probably be more left! Well, it ain't gonna happen, but the thought is nice isn't it?

3 of my bad habits: Dave would say chewing on my lips, I may read a little too much (but I love it!), not reading scriptures enough. Boy that's funny - I read too much, but the scriptures not enough . . . somebody just needs to use some of the novel reading time for scripture reading time.

5 Places I have lived: Jerome, ID; Boise, ID; Preston, ID; Provo, UT; Billings, MT.

5 Jobs I have had: Bagger, checker, custodian, "housekeeper", night motel manager (that was my least favorite).

Things most people don't know about me: When I'm getting acquainted with people I somehow manage to express my entire life story and all of my favorite things . . . seriously. And it's not because I hog all the conversation either. So there's very little that most people don't know about me that I'd share in a forum as open as this! I do hate making phone calls/talking on the phone. The only reason that I can manage to hold a conversation on the phone is because by going to college my only communication with my mother was by phone and she was very good at making me talk. I also strongly dislike many of the crafts that are commonly made in Relief Society. I was relieved when they changed the focus for Relief Society from "Homemaking" to "Home, family, and personal enrichment." It guaranteed I wouldn't have to make those silly crafts and knick knacks. I don't hate ALL of them, just most. :-)

I Tag: Heather, and can I tag Emily, when she's been tagged previously? I only have so many blogging friends that I know about.

Last Halloween

We have taken pictures recently, but there are some older pictures you have got to see and that will be what I'm posting on here for a while. I'm not very familiar with Bob the Builder, but someone suggested it to me and they had the hardhat (the rest of the costume was odd I thought), so I just added some of Dietrich's overalls and a hammer! Isn't he the cutest? Dietrich got to go trick or treating with our ward in our building. It took a while for him to get the hang of it, but he did. He really liked the suckers. Dave and I carved pumpkins the Monday before - can you guess who carved which one? And this final picture with Dietrich is kind of freaky, but I thought it was funny. He was pretty sure he ought to be part of this photo session. Enjoy.

An Autumn day . . .

True these pictures are a bit old. Winter is fully upon us, but these pictures were so cute and I know that many people haven't seen these fun pics. Indeed most people that would be interested probably haven't seen them. So, for your enjoyment some fun pics of our boy playing with and raking the leaves. It's so great having a bit of a yard for him to play in. He really loves rock and dirt. I'll be sure to take pics of him this next summer while he's enjoying these things.

I am not the typical blogger . . .

Maybe there isn't really a "typical blogger," but those that I view regularly have something new posted regularly - with pics and everything! I however, am not that great at taking pictures. For a first child, Dietrich is neglected in terms of pictures. Of course I have other pictures that I could post from Halloween and autumn and stuff, but we have dial-up so it's not something I can do when Dietrich is awake. My project while he's been sleeping lately was to customize my blog page rather than post to it. And that was a headache - took more than one nap to accomplish it. More pics will come, don't worry. :-) As if any of you were worried. haha

Just some random pictures of our boy . . .

Cookie monster, hillbilly, russian baby, sleeper . . . the most accurate description of this boy has to be cookie monster. He loves chocolate in any form. Luckily we don't regularly keep it around the house otherwise he'd figure out where it was all stashed and make me give it to him all the time!

A fearful venture into blogging

I have been considering starting a blog for sometime now. I've been nervous because of security reasons I suppose - what if Dave or I attract a stalker or something weird? We are pretty hot after all. ;-) But I've decided that if I am cautious and don't post any clear information regarding our location I could probably do it. I also have several friends who have ventured and I've subscribed to every one of their blogs at my account with bloglines.com. Anyway, the main point is, if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. Besides, my sister-in-law (Lauren) will be thrilled with regular postings of pictures of her nephew. The things I do to please people. :-)
